During my MA for Interactive Media we were given an assignment to design an "object of delight" for passing the the time while waiting for something to download. I came up with the idea for a digital Mandala - based on the ancient Mandala, a concentric diagram used by Tibetan Buddhist Monks as a creative aid to meditation, healing and trance induction. When the iphone was released with its touch screen capabilities my friend Gil Cang and I decided to adapt it as an app. Melodala functions as a symmetrical drawing tool with 2 drawing modes, 35 colours, 12 brushes, 3, 4, 6 & 8 way symmetry and 10 musical tracks all combining to enable the creation of unique cosmic doodles (Dalas) with infinite possibilities for creative outcomes. The high definition ipad version was featured as an installation at The Tate Britain.
